In this UA sponsored project my team created a brand-centric, authentic "The Future of Run Experience".This interdisciplinary approach will include footwear, apparel, retail space, visuals, packaging, etc. We designed for a night running group titled the EFC "Electric Flight Crew". My team was mentored by Under Armour teammates and have access to Under Armour running culture assets in Los Angeles.

We had the opportunity to workout with the Electric Flight Crew and immerse ourselves in their culture. After they crush each night’s workout, they hang out for No Shower Happy Hour at different local bars. Our main takeaway that drives our concept is the sense of community and connectivity for this post-collegiate athlete.

VISUAL STRATEGY -BIOLUMINESCENCE
Visual strategy inspired by something you may see wash up on the shore during a night run
It is called bioluminescence. We will use color and illumination as our means of communicating and connecting during the night run experience. Bioluminescence relies on external forces to activate, resulting in a beautiful glow. As you can see, this glow is created through many different active bodies united together. Just like the Electric Flight Crew.
MATERIALS STRATEGY
TRIBOLUMINESCENCE
To replicate the effects of Bioluminescence, we will be using a triboluminescent knit. It has been shown that friction caused by stretching, the material can create enough energy to make it glow. And in fact, depending on the amount of friction or stretch, the colors can change and in 5 years from now, we will have honed this technology.

This is our primary color system, inspired by bioluminescence and the energy and effort produced by each individual runner that makes up the collective.

Finally, after all the hard work, the glow turns from purple to pink for the socializing part of the night.

Then comes the main workout,which the glow is a neon blue.
After that, the colors start to darken again during the cool down

The effort of the collective is the primary data, using positive peer pressure and encouraging individuals to give their personal best effort for the team.
SUMMARY
At the end of the workout, a two page summary will include your personal; stats as well as your crew stats.
ROUTES
The route is similarly displayed with the workout evolution of colors. Once is completed, the route is logged and can be shared with EFC community.
NEWCOMER WRISTBANDS
Designed to snap on easily and change color as the workout evolves.
Our first product is the newcomer wristband. For those who do not have the full EFC swag just yet, these are handed out by the captains. The wristbands help to intensify the group dynamic and connect the athletes together as a team.

Looking at the back, you can see a close up of the triboluminescent performance knit. The design has a metaphorical power bar to encourage the athlete to charge their shirt through effort. There is also a pocket for your phone.
Give direction in turing left and Right
LIn addition, at night, the pullover is also used to inform direction based on your selected route in the UA CREW digital system. During a run, the pullover will indicate if you need to Turn left and right
The pullover also features connected fingerless gloves as palm protection. The Electric Flight Crew completes core workouts on all different surfaces and that can be rough on your palms. It is not only more comfortable but also hygienic as people are doing more to avoid the spread of germs.

The palm protectors also visibly encourage the athletes. For example, the energy from a high five creates a bolt of light on the back of one’s hand.

The concept and form come from the EFC logo, the EFC workout and Bioluminescence. The footwear’s glowing effect shows the members working together as a team and the intensity of the workout.

The upper is made of triboluminescent performance knit to replicate the effects of Bioluminescence. The friction of the material will create its glow and color. The bottom sole is made with EVA (Ethylene-vinyl acetate).

Huddle & Socialize
The glowing will begin when the crew huddles up before the workout. When two crew members close the gap between them, the shoes sense the other shoes and begin to glow.
Warm up, Cool down
During the warm-up, the shoe transition to blue. Sensing repeated exercises such as jumping jacks or push-ups.
As the athletes start to run, their movement triggers the triboluminescent pattern. The color changes from dark blue to bright blue for the main workout.
MAIN WORK
When they are in the most intense part of the workout, the triboluminescent pattern on the upper will start to glow like this.
In this way, the footwear helps to intensify the group dynamics and connect the athletes as a team.
